Dorothy Mae Gettmann

Dorothy Mae Gettmann, Newton Falls, went home to be with the Lord, December 10, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Friday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Center Baptist Cemetery in Cambridge at 3 pm Friday. Dorothy Mae was born in San Francisco, August 1, 1913, a daughter of Presley Richard and Mary Elizabeth Charles. After a time her family moved to the central coast of California where she met and married her husband Karl A. Gettmann, who later became an ordained minister. Dorothy served the Lord as a pastors wife and helpmate during the years to follow, often moving to different cities and towns to spread the gospel as well as raising four children. She and her husband served as missionaries in Venezuela and Panama from 1953 to 1961. After returning to the United States, Dorothy and Karl pastored various churches until retiring from Calvary Bible in Cambridge, Ohio. They moved to Austintown in 1999 and were members of Bailey Road Baptist Church. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Karl; sister’s, Mildred and Pauline; brother’s, Wallace and James; grandson Karl David; great-grandaughter Rachel Stern and great-grandson Jesse Broderick. She is survived by, Mary Ellen O’Neill (Tony), of San Luis Obispo, CA., Barbara J. Shelor (Joe) of Greeley, CO., Karl R. (Lavonn), Georgetown, SC., Alan C. (Barbara), Diamond, OH.; seventeen grandchildren and thirty five great grandchildren.
