Dorothy V. "Dottie" Ward, 88, formerly of North Canton, passed away peacefully in Warren, OH July 3, 2013 following a brief illness. She was born May 3, 1925 in Wood River, IL where she graduated from Wood River High School as valedictorian in 1943 and worked during WW II for Owens Illinois Glass Co. in Alton, IL. After the war, she attended the University of Illinois, graduating cum laude in 1950. Dottie was a campus leader having been accepted into the Phi Beta Kappa and Mortar Board honorary societies. After graduation, she resumed her career with Owens-Illinois in Bridgeton, NJ as Director of Women's Activities. It was there she met William Ward whom she married in 1952. William and Dottie settled in North Canton in 1959. Dottie went on to complete her graduate studies at Kent State University and worked as one of the first school psychologists for Tuscarawas County Schools, completing 30 years of service in 1996. She continued to work part time as a school psychologist before permanently retiring in 2003 at the age of 78. She is survived by her husband William, son Robert (Elizabeth) Ward of Howland Twp., daughter Mary (Todd) Kuramoto of Cincinnati, Oh and 4 grandchildren; Sarah Ward, and Brian, Chris, and Mollie Kuramoto. She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother. Dottie was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church in North Canton serving in many capacities. She will be entombed in the Faith United Methodist Columbarium Memory Garden. A memorial service will be planned for a later date. The family suggests material contributions be made to the Faith United Methodist Church 300 Ninth St. NW North Canton, OH 44720. Arrangements were entrusted to Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel.
