Dorothy W. Evans

There will be a memorial service Saturday January 7, 2006 at 1:30 PM at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for Dorothy W. Evans who passed away Monday evening at Alterra Clare Bridge Cottage. Dorothy was born December 18, 1910 in Springboro, OH, a daughter of the late Austin and Anna (Schmiesing) Thackara. She was a school teacher for 19 years at Austintown Fitch, teaching English and Mythology and was also the Drama Coach. Prior to being an educator she was a social worker for the Ohio Department of Public Welfare for 18 years. Dorothy was a member of AAUW, Delta Kappa Gamma, Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, the Arm Chair Travelers, The Three Arts Club, OEA, NEA and the Austintown Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed traveling throughout the world, graduated with a Liberal Arts Degree from Miami University in Oxford, and BS in Education from Youngstown State University. She attended the Austintown Community Church. Her husband Kenneth H. Evans whom she married in 1931, passed away in 1956. Mrs Evans is survived by two daughters: Elaine (William) Pickens of Warren and Joanne (Frank) Suarez Massillon; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents a son Raymond T. Evans precede Dorothy in death. Friends may call from 12:30 – 1:30 Saturday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel.
