Dr. Margaret A. "Peggy" Bancroft, of Canfield, passed away at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010 in the medical intensive care unit in St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown. She was 58 years old. Peggy was born January 19, 1952 in Youngstown the daughter of the late William L. and Ruby J. (Richards) Bancroft. Peggy was a 1970 graduate of Canfield High School. She furthered her education receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice in 1974 from Youngstown State University; a Master of Science in Education majoring in Community Counseling in 1980 from Youngstown State University and received her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology in 1987 from the University of Iowa. Peggy was currently maintaining as a psychologist, a private practice. Her practice was known as Bancroft Psychological Services. Previously, Peggy was a psychologist for the Fremont County School District (Wyoming Indian Schools) in Ethete, Wyoming; she was also a psychological consultant with the Tennessee Rehabilitation Center in Smyrna, TN; a neuropsychologist in Traumatic Brain Injury Program with the Tennessee Rehabilitation Center in Smyrna; and a clinical director for Hillsboro Rehabilitation Center in Nashville, TN. Peggy was a member of the Canfield Presbyterian Church in Canfield. While residing in Wyoming, Peggy enjoyed the Rocky Mountains, and nature hiking. She loved to play the piano and was very fond of animals. Mostly, Peggy enjoyed and cherished the time she spent interacting with her family especially all of her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and her two great-great nieces, whom she loved and cared for as her own. Peggy was married on April 23, 1989 to Dr. Dwight B. Steiner and he preceded her in death on November 19, 2001. Peggy is survived by her brothers and sisters William (Sally) Bancroft of Hubbard, Nancy Dunn of Canfield, twin brother Thomas (Beverly) Bancroft of New Palestine, Indiana and Martha (John) Dorrance of Canfield; nieces and nephews William (Debbie) Bancroft of Hubbard, Michelle (Rob) Collins of Navarre, Fl, John (Marlene) Dunn of Boardman, Nancy (Bill) Kunkle of Canfield, Ronald Dunn of Canfield, Christopher Dorrance of Mentor, Matthew Dorrance of Boardman, Carrie (Mark) Correll of Castle Rock, CO, and Jessi (Matt) Bukala of White Lake Twp., Michigan; great nieces and great nephews John (Molly) Dunn, Jacob Dunn, Kristina (Florenzo) Lozano, Kyle Kunkle, Ronnie (Megan) Dunn and the late Travis Dunn, Katie and Billy Collins, Grace and Claire Correll, Will Bukala, and Elizabeth, Alexandra, Victoria and Isabella Bancroft; and two great-great nieces Rian and Keegan Dunn. Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 from 5:30 until 7 PM at Canfield Presbyterian Church, 140 W. Main St., Canfield, Ohio, 44406, where a memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Peggy's name to the Canfield Presbyterian Church, 140 W. Main St., Canfield, Ohio, 44406.
