Dr. Nancy Louise Kiracofe, 76, of Niles, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Sunday April 10, 2016 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 22, 1939 in Ashtabula, Ohio the daughter of the late Melville and Kathryn Hoffman Kiracofe. Nancy was a 1957 graduate of Niles McKinley high school and in 1961 received a bachelor's degree in political science and biology from Kent State University. Following graduation, she studied at Oxford University in England. She continued her education at Kent State University where she received a masters degree in Education and also one in counseling. She completed her education at Temple University in Philadelphia where she graduated with a PhD in clinical psychology. Passionate about education and service Nancy taught school in Cleveland for several years and then joined the PeaceCorps and lived in Katmandu, Nepal. After the Peace Corps she taught on a Native American reservation in Washington State and then returned to Ohio where she was the Executive Director of the Northeast Ohio Easter Seals Inc. For the past twenty years she worked for Total Care in Boardman as a clinical psychologist, retiring in 2014. She was active with both the American and Ohio State Associations of Clinical psychologists and was a lifetime member of MENSA. Nancy enjoyed summers in Chautauqua, NY, traveling, the arts, reading, and especially spending time with her family. Nancy will be sadly missed by her brother James (Sharon) Kiracofe of Howland, nieces Dr. Elizabeth Kiracofe of Columbus, OH, Emily (fianc BJ Loessberg) Kiracofe of Boston, MA, and cousins Barbara (James) Markle of Bath, MI and Annette Wenger Sarasota, FL. Calling hours will be held from 4:00-6:00PM with a memorial service at 6:00PM Thursday April 14, 2016 at the Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, OH. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that material contributions be made to the Niles Historical Society- 503 Brown Street Niles, Ohio 44446.
