Earl Eugene Manwell

April 28, 1932 — June 29, 2014

Earl E. Manwell, formerly of Southington, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014 in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born on April 28, 1932 to Earl G. and Bernice (Hunter) Manwell. Earl graduated from Howland High School in 1950, attended Bowling Green State University, but left to sail on the Great Lakes and then enlisted in the United States Navy. After serving during the Korean War, he graduated from Trine University with a B.S. in mechanical engineering, and worked as an engineer until his retirement. As a 45-year-long member of Champion Presbyterian Church, he served as an elder, a trustee, a member of various committees and sang for many years in the choir. He spent many years of his retirement serving others, as a docent on the Great Lakes freighter William G. Mather at the Great Lakes Science Center and a volunteer at the Camelot Center Therapeutic Riding Program. He also participated annually in the Warren Civic Chorus' presentation of Handel's Messiah. Earl was a member of the Western Reserve Lodge #507 and the Southington Post of the American Legion. He will be remembered for his love of music and sailing, and his dry sense of humor. He will be missed for his ability to fix anything. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary (Dunlap) Manwell and his daughters and their families, Elizabeth Manwell and Matt Shockey with grandson Thomas Shockey and Barbara Manwell and Tami Stevenson.
