Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday at Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 2432 S. Raccoon Rd. for Edmund F. Harsney formerly of Benton Ave. who passed away at Austinwoods Nursing Home Thursday afternoon. Edmund was born November 13, 1919 in Pittsburgh, PA a son of Andrew and Lydia (Sabo) Harsney He had been an overhead craneman for Truscon Steel Co. retiring after 41 ½ years of service. He attended the Tabernacle Evangelical Presbyterian Church, past member of the Austintown Optimists Club where he won the State Award for The Bulletin in 1965, and inducted into the East High School Hall of Fame in 1990 for baseball as a catcher. When Ed was 17 and playing for the East Side Civics Baseball Team, they were honored at their banquet by having Honus Wagner attend and sign their awards. Ed was also an Army Veteran of World War II. He is survived by three children: Judith Brown of Austintown, Barbara Soltis of Liberty and Edmund J. Harsney of Austintown; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Edmund is preceded in death by his wife the former Elva Slagle whom he married October 8, 1940 and passed away in 1988, two sisters Wilma Jessee and Ethel Burt; and two brothers Theodore and Al Harsney. Ed’s sense of humor and joking will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Friends may call at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel on Sunday from 3-6 PM.
