Edward C. Gearhart, 84, formerly of Cortland, passed away Thursday afternoon, Nov. 26, 2009 at the Gracewoods Senior Living Center in Niles. Born March 24, 1925 in Lordstown, OH Edward was the son of the late Homer C. and Mary Florence (White) Gearhart. A veteran of the United States Army, Edward served in the 453rd Anti-Aircraft BN in the European Theatre from 1943 to 1946 and received an honorable discharge. He retired from American Welding & Mfg. Co. in 1982 where he worked as a tow motor operator for 35 years. Ed was a member of the American Legion, SOAR, and enjoyed traveling and antique cars, auctions, watching Western movies and WWII footage and most of all his family and friends. He was preceded in death in 2006 by his loving wife, Martha C. Titus Gearhart, whom he married Feb. 2, 1947. Edward will be dearly missed by his four daughters, Linda Ward and Donna (Gordon) Finnegan both of Warren, Nancy Simmons of Vienna, and Susan (Gregory) Meade of Masury; four sons Ronald E. (Gloria) of Leavittsburg, Gary K.of Warren, Alan G. (Michelle Mulligan) of Vernon, and Steven H. of Cortland; 24 grandchildren, and 46 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Pamela Finnegan, five brothers, Dale N., Frank R., Wayne I., Alva J., and William E. Gearhart, two sisters, Cora Irwin and Martha C. Shuster and by a son-in-law Jacob Ward. Family and friends will be welcomed Thursday from 2 to 4 and from 6 until 8PM and the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel. Pastor Allan McCracken will conduct a funeral service on Friday, Dec. 4, 2009 at 1PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the North Jackson Cemetery.
