Edward Carl Metzel, Jr.

There will be a Memorial Service at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 20th at The Church of the Savior in Cleveland Heights for Edward Carl Metzel, Jr., 82, of Boardman, formerly of Cleveland Heights, who passed away early Sunday morning at Hospice House. Mr. Metzel was born February 22, 1936 in Cleveland, the son of Edward Carl and Margaret G. Miller Metzel, Sr. He lived the majority of his youth in Pittsburgh and returned to Cleveland when he was 17. Ed attended Fenn College and worked at the Cleveland Public Library where he met his beloved wife Rebecca. He worked as a Cost Accountant with Freeway Washer and Stamping Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He was a former member of The Church of the Savior in Cleveland Heights, where he was very active, having been a youth leader for 17 years and serving on various committees. Ed is a current member of Boardman United Methodist Church. Ed enjoyed traveling with his wife Becky and together they also housed many exchange students throughout the years. Ed enjoyed reading history and watching old movies. Eds wife of 53 years, the former Rebecca Ann Casto, whom he married June 29, 1957, died March 19, 2011. Ed is survived by his daughters, Ann E. Linc-Nielsen (Maurice A. Nielsen) of Maple Heights and Linda S. (Paul B.) Alderfer of Sugarcreek; his son, Edward C. (Cheryl L.) Metzel, lll of Boardman; his brother-in-law, Edmund Caufield of Sarasota, FL; his grandchildren, Bradley and Timothy Linc, Will (Lisa) Alderfer, Emily (Steve) Young, Ben (Hannah) Alderfer and Nathan (Sarah) Alderfer and Sydney and Justin Metzel and 6 gr. grandchildren. Besides his parents and wife, Ed was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Caufield.
