Edward J. Cassidy, 89, of Warren died 8:15 PM Thursday April 21, 2011 at Community Skilled Healthcare. He was born Jan. 1, 1922 in Warren the son of Ralph and Edna (Ott) Cassidy. A lifelong resident of Warren Ed lived at Community Commons Assisted Living since 2007, and formerly resided on Stonehenge Ave. in Warren. He was a 1940 Graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and he received a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Miami University of Ohio. Ed served in the pacific theater with the US Army Air Corps during WW II attaining the rank of corporal. He was a with the 99th bomb squadron of the 20th Air Force and received the Asiatic Pacific Theater ribbon with 3 bronze stars, the American Theater ribbon, and the WW II victory medal. He retired from Republic Steel Corp. in 1986 after 30 years in the industrial engineering dept. He was a faithful member of St. James Catholic Church and enjoyed golf, tennis, chess, stamp collecting, and dancing. He also enjoyed exercising at the YMCA. Ed was loved by his family and friends and will be dearly missed. His beloved wife of 57 years, Gladys Marie (Vennette) Cassidy whom he married Sept.3, 1949 preceded him in death Oct. 20, 2006. He also was preceded in death by 2 brothers Robert and Charles and by a sister Margaret "Peg" Moriarty. He is survived by 2 sons, Robert James Cassidy of Warren, Richard Dennis Cassidy of Knoxville, TN, a daughter Mary Patricia (Rey) Gamboa of Perrysburg, OH, 2 grandsons, David Gamboa of Perrysburg, Nick Cassidy of Erie, CO, and a sister Rosemary Furniss of Warren. The Rev. Charles Crumbley will celebrate a mass of Christian burial 10:00 am Monday April 25, 2011 at St. James Church of Warren where friends will be received from 9:00 AM until service time. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Roberts-Clark Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements. The family suggests material contributions be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society or to St. James Catholic Church.
