Edward M. Medvec

September 17, 1926 — April 8, 2005

Edward M. Medvec of Brookfield, OH, died at 10:00 PM Friday at Sharon Regional Hospital. He was 78. Mr. Medvec was born in Connellsville, PA on Sept. 17, 1926, a son of Michael and Grace Rittenberger Medvec. He was a 1944 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School in Connellsville. Edward served on a LST in the United States Navy during World War II. During his career in the military he held the rank of Yeoman Second Class and received many medals such as, the American and Pacific Theater, Philippine Liberation, and the Victory Medal. Mr. Medvec was a foreman for GATX in Masury for over 30 years. He retired in 1977. His membership included St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church and St. Vincent De Paul’s Catholic Church, the American Legion Post #51 of Hubbard, OH, the VFW of Farrell, PA, and he was a former charter member of the K of C in Masury, OH. In his spare time he found great enjoyment in woodworking and gardening. He loved his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include: his wife, Louise Passavant Medvec, whom he married July 20, 1949; 7 children, James E. and his wife Patricia A. Medvec of Columbus, OH, Michael R. and his wife Donna Medvec of Hubbard, OH, Edward F. and his wife Gayle Medvec of Vienna, OH, Mary Grace and her husband Mike Wood of Maumee, OH, Patricia and her husband Scott Dieterich of Pittsburgh, PA, Paul F. and his wife Victoria Medvec of Chicago, IL, and Christine and her husband Steve Donchatz of Liberty Twp. OH.; 1 brother, Michael Medvec of Connellsville, PA; 1 sister, Marlene Heath of Murfreesboro, TN; 18 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren He was preceded in death by his Parents; a son, Joseph Paul Medvec; 1 brother, Robert Medvec; 1 sister, Lois Steindl. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church, Masury, OH, with Fr. John Lody. Calling hours will be from 6-8 PM Monday and one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday, at the Madasz Funeral Chapel, Brookfield. Burial will be in Brookfield Twp. Cemetery. Memorial Contribution may be sent to the Brookfield Fire Dept, St. Bernadette’s, or St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, or Sharon Hospital Hospice Care.
