Edward Smillie

MINERAL RIDGE: Edward Smillie, age 87 of Mineral Ridge, formerly of Florida, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Manor at Autumn Hills, Niles. Edward was born on March 7, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to parents; Edward James and Bella Olive (Sperry) Smillie. Edward served his county proudly in the United States Navy, retiring from that service. He worked for Florida Power and then Hernando School Systems. Edward married Carolyn Oldham and together they enjoy 66 years of marriage until her passing on December 20, 2012. Edward belonged to the West Youngstown Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall. He loved painting, and while a patient at Hillside hospital, he loved his "hoover workers." Edward adored his great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. The time he had with all of them was priceless. Edward is survived by his granddaughter, with whom he made his home; Nona (William) Rambo, Mineral Ridge, grandson; Edward E. Smillie, Oklahoma, six great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sons; Ricky Lee and Randy Smillie. Per Edwards's request, there are no calling hours or services scheduled. Lane Family Funeral Homes, Mineral Ridge Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
