Edward W. Ulan

June 29, 1921 — July 28, 2011

Edward Walter Ulan who just celebrated his 90th birthday June 29, an outstanding citizen of Brookfield Ohio passed away Thursday July 28, 2011 with his son John Ulan and his daughter-in-law Lori at his side along with Father Adam Trembly and other family members at Sharon Regional Hospital. He was born in 1921 in Star Alberta Canada and moved to Albion at the age of one. Edward married his beloved wife Veronica "Betty" Mosora Ulan on March 16, 1946 in St. John's Episcopal Church, Sharon, Pa by the Rev. Bowman. Betty passed away June 19, 2003.after sharing 56 wonderful years together. He built his home where they raised their only son John and lived for 60 years on State Route 7, which it became a happy and favorite gathering place to his many friends and relatives. Referred to as Grandpa Ulan, and Uncle Ed, by all the nieces and nephews who all loved him dearly. He especially enjoyed the frequent out of state calls from North & South Carolina, Indiana, Texas, Arizona, and his Aunts & Uncles from Albion, Pa and other relatives from Canada, added to his pleasures for many years. Edward served in the U.S. Marine Corps. during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theater in the battle of Iwo Jima and Roi Namer. He was awarded rank of Corporal. He was honorably discharged January 16, 1946. Surviving is his only son John Edward Ulan and wife Lori, his sister Marie Russo of Greenville Pa, 3 brothers, James and wife Mary Ellen of Hermitage, Joseph and wife Margie and brother Tom all of Farrell, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by father and mother John and Lillian Ulan of Sharon Pa. Also surviving are sister-in- law Emily Tice and husband Alvin of Brookfield, Jennie Bretfelain of Youngstown Ohio, Shirley and Helen Mosora of Brookfield, Ohio. Ed enjoyed many beautiful years of gardening, growing unusual fruits and varieties of nut trees which he shared with friends and family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him! Special thanks to Father Adam Trembly St. John's Sharon, Pa. to the Sharon Regional Hospital and to a very dear brother Tom who has been a very special caregiver for all of Ed"s challenges over the years. Calling hours will be held at the Madasz Funeral Chapel in Brookfield, OH from 5-8:00 PM on Monday August 1, 2011 and from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM Tuesday morning at the funeral home. A procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30AM on Tuesday. A funeral service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church Sharon, Pa beginning at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at the Brookfield Township Cemetery where a graveside service will be held with military honors provided by the Trumbull County Veterans Honor Guard.
