Edwin H. Childs

Edwin H. Childs, Sr., age 86 of Austintown, Ohio, died peacefully at 1:50 AM on Friday, June 13, 2014 at the Omni Manor Nursing Home in Youngstown. He was born on July 30, 1927 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Herbert and Freda Hoffman Childs. Ed graduated from Ohio Northern University School of Pharmacy in 1954. He worked as a pharmacist at St. Elizabeth Hospital, he owned and operated Mahoning Pharmacy on Mahoning Avenue near Steel Street in Youngstown, and he finally retired from Family Discount Pharmacy in Cornersburg in 1997. He served his community for 43 years. Edwin was an honorably discharged US Army/Air Corps. Veteran during peacetime. Ed was a member of the Mahoning United Methodist Church where he was very active as a Pastor Parish Chairman, Care Team member, and he also wrote the church newsletter for 30 years. He was a loving husband to his wife, the former Barbara Molin, whom he married on June 30, 1978; loving father to his children, Debra (Don) Gordon, Shelley Wishka (Ed), and Edwin Childs, Jr.; loving grandfather to his four granddaughters, Nicole (Mike) Smith, Danielle Wishka (John), Michelle (Dan) Bestic, and Kim (Ashley) Gordon; and to his six great-grandchildren. Other than his parents, Edwin was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Lou Childs, and his brother, Tod Childs. Although there will be no viewing, a Celebration of Life will take place at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Mahoning United Methodist Church, 2214 Mahoning Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio 44509. Family and friends may gather one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Joyce Lawson and Pastor Luigi Perez will celebrate Ed's life. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
