Eileen Cobey

Eileen Cobey, age 81, of Cortland, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Lake Vista of Cortland. She was born on July 4, 1928, in Brooklyn, NY, a daughter of the late Francis Galla and the late Marion (Stack) Galla. Mrs. Cobey devoted her life to her family by working as a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling to the beach and entertaining. She also enjoyed a good football game. Her favorite teams were the Steelers, Bills and the Patriots. Most importantly, Eileen enjoyed spending her time with her family. Her husband, William Cobey, whom she married on June 25, 1978, preceded her in death on September 23, 2001. She is survived by three sons, Richard (Linda) Thomson of Manorville, NY, John (Diana Corrao) Thomson of Huntington Station, NY. and James (Jantine) Thomson of the Netherlands; two daughters, Nancy (Ronald) Philipp of White Lake, MI. and Rosemary (Bret McLean) Opalka of Cortland. Also surviving is a brother, Francis Galla of Brooklyn, NY., thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Eileen was preceded in death by a brother, John Galla. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 6:00 PM at the Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
