There will be a funeral service 11 AM Saturday at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel for Eleanor "Sally" Vona of Austintown, formerly of Greenford, who passed away Wednesday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Boardman Campus. Sally was born March 1, 1924 in Youngstown a daughter of the late James and Susie Eleanor (Kohler) Menier. Prior to dedicating her time to raising her family, Sally worked at Mullens in Salem on the shell line, during the Korean Conflict, at Carbonic Dispenser in Canfield, White House Farms, and owned and operated Sally's Pizza Shop in the late 1950's. She was a member of the Calla Evangelical Community Church; and founded the Lake to River Girl Scouts in Greenford, where she served as troop leader for 5 years of Troop #124, from 1974 1979. Sally enjoyed cooking, crafts, and loved animals. Her husband Charles A. Vona, whom she married November 8, 1943, passed away December 18, 1980. Sally is survived by three children: Charles (Debbie) Vona of Winona, Jerry (Cecilia) Vona of Canfield and Gina (Alfred) DeRose of Mineral Ridge; and one granddaughter Sara Elizabeth. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, in Sally's name. Friends may call from 10 AM until 11 AM Saturday at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel.
