Eliza Jane Thompson

May 10, 1902 — January 13, 2008

Eliza Jane Thompson, 105, Liberty Twp., Ohio, formerly of Bethel, Ohio, died on Sunday (1-13-2008). She credits her longevity to her genes from her ancestors from Scotland and clean living. Mrs. Thompson was born in Barnesville, Ohio on May 10, 1902, a daughter of Henry and Leona (Powell) Dewar. Eliza had four sisters and two brothers who attended a one-room school house at the same time. She only missed three days of school from K-12 and that was because of three day measles. She walked two miles to school over fields in all kinds of weather. She attended Ohio University and taught school for six years. She was always hard working and a good role model for family and friends. She tells that she remembers riding in the first automobile in the area but she never obtained her drivers license. In her spare time, Eliza enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafting, gardening, and baking pies. She lived 50 years in her last home, 30 of which were after her husband died. One of her sustaining traits has been a strong faith in God. She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church and currently of the Brookfield United Methodist Church. She felt blessed with her life and we all were blessed to have had her. She has been a special Mother to her daughters, Marjorie Taylor, Bonita Springs, FL, and Barbara Simmons & her husband Russell, Sebring, FL; a Grandmother to her 10 grandchildren; her 16 great-grandchildren; and her 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her brothers; by her sisters; and by her son-in-law, Philip Taylor. There will be no viewing and private services will be held at the convenience of her family. Burial will be in Tate Township Cemetery, Bethel, Ohio. Just think what she has witnessed and experienced in her 105 years. WE LOVE YOU and you will be profoundly missed. As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests contributions can be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church in her memory. Family & Friends can send condolences to www.madaszchapel.com.
