Elizabeth J. 'Betty' Muir Remalia, age 88, formerly of North Jackson and Howland Township, died at 5:50 pm Friday, August 31, 2007, at Meridian Arms Living Center in Austintown. She was born December 23, 1918 in North Jackson the daughter of the late Walter Bryan and Florence J. (Rodgers) Gallaher. Betty was a 1936 graduate of North Jackson High School and received a bachelor of science degree in biology in 1940 from Mt. Union College, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority. She was a longtime active member of Central Christian Church in Warren. Betty taught for 24 years, retiring in 1979 from Waren City Schools, where she had taught at East Junior High School. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting, cooking and crossword puzzles. Betty was a talented artist and was a member of SCOPE, the 50 Plus Club and was active in the community. Betty was preceded in death in 1989 by her first husband, William H. Muir Jr., whom she married January 19, 1944 and by her second husband in 2002, Verne R. Remalia, whom she married June 12, 1993. She is survived by five sons, William H. (Elizabeth) Muir III of Johnston Twp.; Colin R. (Deanna Silvester) Muir of Kenora, Ontario, Canada; James P. (GiGi) Muir of Akron; Thomas W. (Sandi) Muir of North Jackson and Paul G. Muir of North Kenai, Alaska; one daughter, Barbara J. (William) White of Alpine, TX; two stepsons, David (Judy) Remalia of N. Myrtle Beach, SC and Bruce Remalia of Howland; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Imogene (James) McCoy of Longview, WA and one brother, Walter B. (Betty) Gallaher Jr. of Rio Rancho, NM. Arrangements are being handled by Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel in Warren, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday, September 6, 2007. Funeral services will be at Central Christian Church at 11:00 am Friday with Rev. Caroline Bloomfield officiating. Material contributions may be made to the memorial fund at Central Christian Church.
