Elizabeth Louise Whitmore

Elizabeth L. (Lahner) Whitmore, age 88, of Johnston Township, died Friday morning, June 5, 2009, at her home. She was born December 10, 1920 in Greene Township the daughter of the late John and Fannie (Reynolds) Lahner. Elizabeth attended Warren Business College for two years and worked for United Telephone Company for 10 years. She loved being a homemaker and spending time with her family. She enjoyed gardening, yardwork and the outdoors, sewing and roller skating with her husband, Frank. She was a member of Johnston Federated United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. Elizabeth was preceded in death in 2002 by her husband, Frank Arthur Whitmore, whom she married November 2, 1938. One granddaughter, Danette Whitmore; one great grandson, Tyler; one sister, Freida Kimpton and three brothers, Walter, John and Donald Lahner all have preceded her in death. Elizabeth is survived by three daughters, Medena R. Hollis of Andover, Janice L. (Robert) Allen of Erie, Pa. and Sherry (Tom) Ohl of Middlefield; two sons, Budd A. (Joyce) Whitmore of Salem and James Whitmore of Warren; thirteen grandchildren, including Heather Whitmore of Newbury, OH whom she raised; many great and great great grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Hiner of Lakeland, Fla., Ila Jones of Andover and Abbie Brown of Cleveland and four brothers, Howard Lahner of Warren, Harlan Lahner of Cleveland and Robert and Andrew Lahner both of Andover. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland, where the family will receive friends from Noon to 2 pm Tuesday, June 9, 2009. The funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 2:00 pm with Mr. Oscar W. Grant officiating. Burial will be at Johnston Township Cemetery.
