Emogene E. Thompson passed away Friday evening at Park Vista Nursing Home. She was born January 28, 1929 in Girard, a daughter of the late Harvey and Emma (Von Gunten) Hecker. Emogene and her husband, Conrad, were faithful members of Wickliffe Presbyterian Church for 49 years, where she served in the past as an active elder, chairman of the Worship Committee, Sunday School Teacher, belonged to the Friendship Circle, had been captain of the bowling team, and was on the Board of TLCC Day Care, naming it Tender Loving Christian Care. Emogene also was church secretary for Foster Memorial Presbyterian Church in Youngstown for 17 years until she retired in 1992. She had previously been a secretary for Stambaugh-Thompson from 1946-1949. Emogene was a member of the Fred Childress Parkinson’s Support Group, was an auxiliary member of CBI (China, Burma, India Veterans where her husband had served during WWII). She and her husband had been longtime members of Steel Valley Squares square dance group. She was an artist, and had a talent for painting, crafts and sewing. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Conrad M. Thompson, whom she married May 1, 1949; one son: Dennis (Pamir) Thompson of Atlanta, GA; two daughters: Deborah (Ken) Hromyak of Austintown, and Cynthia Pirozzoli of Strongsville; and four grandchildren: Leyla Thompson, Amber Hromyak, Ashley Hromyak, and Brittany Pirozzoli. Emogene is preceded in death by three brothers: Harold, Earl, and Wilbur Hecker; and one sister, Clara Seitz. Friends may call from 12 PM – 1 PM Monday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel where a funeral service will be held at 1 PM.
