Ervin A. (Joe) Haefke-- 84 Austintown—Services will be 1:00 pm Friday at Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for Ervin A. Haefke, 84, of Austintown who passed away Tuesday afternoon in Austinwood Care Center. Ervin also known as Joe was born June 5, 1920 in Youngstown the son of Lawrence and Ester (Dahman) Haefke and was a life long area resident. Ervin was a retired lineman with Ohio Bell. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, and a member of Austintown Rod and Gun Club. Ervin also played AA Baseball for McKelvey’s and is in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. He was an Army Air Force Veteran of WWII serving from 1942 to 1945. Ervin leaves his wife the former Gladys Pittman whom he married August 2, 1941. He also leaves two sons James (Linda) and Ronald (Barb), one daughter Barbara (Glen) Ripple, and one brother Lawrence all Austintown. Ervin also leaves five grandchildren; Tammy, Lisa, Teri, James, and Nicole and three great-grandchildren Kala, Zachary, and Raelyn. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Calvin and a sister Dorothy Deeds. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home
