Mineral Ridge- Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday at the Lane Funeral Home-Mineral Ridge Chapel for Esther M. Rohe age 94 of Mineral Ridge, formerly of Canton who died Thursday afternoon in St. Elizabeth Hospital. Esther was born Aug. 10, 1910 in Ohltown, OH and was the daughter of Wilson and Lena (Neff) Matthews. She had been a teacher at Mineral Ridge High School and also at several school districts in Stark County where she had been an elementary teacher. She was formerly a member of Crystal Park Methodist Church in Canton and was presently a member of Ohltown United Methodist Church. She was a past member of the Rebekah Lodge in Mineral Ridge, member of the Eastern Star McKinley Chapter in Canton where she had been a 50 year member. She had attended Youngstown College and Kent State where she had received her teaching certificate and had also studied at Boston College and Malone College in Canton. She had taught in the Literacy Program in Niles and Warren. Her husband Eugene C. Rohe whom she married June 25, 1940 died in August of 1959. She leaves two stepchildren, Frank Rohe of Beechgrove, TN, Betty Jackson of Brownwood, TX, a sister Jean Sweeney with whom she made her home, a brother Myron Matthews of Mineral Ridge, 3 nieces Claudia Hoover of Fowler, OH, Karen Caroll of Niles, Peggy Murray of Austintown, 2 nephews Gary Sweeney of Hanoverton, OH, Tim Sweeney of New Castle, Pa. and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Paul Matthews and a nephew Allan Matthews. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 2-5 PM Sunday. The family requests that material contributions be made to the Ohltown United Methodist Church.
