Eugene Stefani

November 27, 1937 — February 7, 2012

Eugene "Gene" Stefani passed away with his family at his side on Tuesday evening. Gene was born on November 27, 1937 in Warren, Ohio, the son of Premo and Helen Bertuzzi Stefani. He attended Warren City Schools, participating as a standout member of the track and field team, graduating in January, 1956. Following graduation, he began a 28 year career as a welder at Van Huffel Tube, working until the plant closed in 1985. He continued his career at Flex Strut until retiring in 2005. He was a member of several bowling leagues in Warren for more than thirty five years. Gene enjoyed working on his cars, taking care of his home, hunting, fishing and following the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes and Mahoning Valley Scrappers, but most of all he beamed with pride over his family. He married Georgia Rex Stefani on February 25, 1978. They raised two sons of whom Gene was especially proud. He spent many exhausting years demonstrating his values and morals to those two boys, who now appreciate him so much more than they did in their youth! He especially enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren and attending their many sports games and school events. Nothing could keep him from showing his pride or bragging about his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gene will be extraordinarily missed by his entire family and a wealth of friends, including his dedicated wife, Georgia, his sister Shirley Patrick of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, two sons, Eric (Susan) Thompson Sr. and Rex Thompson. He is also survived by grandchildren Sara (Josh) Marsh, Eric Thompson Jr. and Katlyn Thompson, all of Trumbull County, and Brittney Thompson and Christopher Thompson of Greencastle, Indiana, as well as great grandchildren Nikos Monro, Madilyn Marsh and Avery Thompson. Also left to carry on his memory are numerous nieces and nephews, of whom he was so proud. H was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Ashley Monro. Family and friends will be welcomed Friday evening from 6 until 8 PM at Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel. Rev. Ron Spore will conduct a funeral service Saturday morning at 11 a.m., February 11, 2012 at the funeral home. Gene will be buried in Howland Township cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make material contributions to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at 26 Broadway Avenue New York, NY 10004.
