Evelyn R. Miller

Evelyn R. (Stiner) Miller, age 86, formerly of Cortland, died at 11:00 pm Monday, May 25, 2009, at Windsor House of Champion. She was born September 8, 1922 in Warren the daughter of the late Walter H. and Ruby Myrtle (Green) Stiner. She grew up in Howland and lived in the Bazetta Township-Cortland area most of her life. Evelyn was a 1940 graduate of Howland High School, where she played in the band and was very active in music. She was an active member of Howland Community Church, where she served as a deaconess. Evelyn volunteered as a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout den mother for Troop 28, both at the church. She was a member of the Howland Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and the Ashtabula Yacht Club. Evelyn was a homemaker all her life, but did work at Ohio Lamp during WWII and also worked at the Warren Automobile Club on North Park Avenue. Her husband, Roy V. Miller, whom she married September 25, 1942, preceded in death October 30, 2005. One son, Paul J. Miller and one sister, Doris Smith also have preceded her in death. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Jacquie R. Miles of Johnston Twp.; one son, Roger T. (Connie) Miller of Ashtabula; five grandchildren, Troy (Donna) Miller, Greg (Stephanie) Miller, Brit (Ken) Flack; Patrick (Brandi) Miles and Ian (Elizabeth) Miller; one great grandson, Blaine Flack and one sister, Mary Alice Trosien of Livonia, Mich. There will be no services or calling hours. Cremation will take place. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trumbull County 4-H Endowment Fund, 520 West Main Street, Cortland 44410.
