Evon Ann Kimerer

November 12, 1935 — November 5, 2013

Evon Kimerer A celebration of the life of Evon Kimerer will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday. Nov. 9 at 11:00 am. Friends may call at the church immediately preceding from 10am-11am.. Evon slipped away peacefully at home on November 5 surrounded by her family after a long, courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. She was born Evon Ann Beckwith on November 12, 1935 in Wausau, Wisconsin, the second daughter of Henrietta (Meuret) and Ivan Beckwith. Evon attended Wausau High School, graduating in 1953. She earned a bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point in 1957. She worked as a Second Grade teacher in the Columbus area, then spent the remainder of her career teaching first graders, first in the Austintown school district and then, for approximately 20 years at Ellsworth Elementary School, from which she retired in 1992. Evon was beloved by students, fellow teachers and many members of the communities in Austintown, Ellsworth and Boardman, where she lived all of her adult life. She clearly touched the lives of many during her time as an educator. Evon was also a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Boardman, where she was active on many boards and committees over the years. She was also very involved with the Christian Women's Association, the Ohio Retired Teacher's Association and the Mahoning County Retired Teachers' Association. She enjoyed traveling, entertaining and most of all, spending time with her family. No one loved her more than her devoted husband Donald, whom she married on June 22, 1957. Having met in their teen years at the Eagle River Lodge in Wisconsin, the Kimerers were virtually inseparable as a couple and served as a source of inspiration and as a model for marriage to their family and friends. She leaves Donald behind to cherish her memory, as well as her son Kenneth Kimerer, daughter Kimberly (Robert) Walters and son Kerry (Patricia) Kimerer. Evon will be missed terribly by her adored grandchildren Cody (Alycia) Wyatt, Carly Kimerer, Alexis Wyatt and Kyle Kimerer, as well as by her great-grandson Trevor Ryan Wyatt. She also leaves behind her dear sister Carolyn Miller of Brigham City, Utah and her niece Lynda (Jeff), great-niece Hailey and great-nephew Griffin Anderson, also of Utah. Evon was preceded in death by her parents. Evon and Don spent many happy years boating, mostly along Lake Erie, and also enjoyed several family vacations, including trips to Hawaii, Alaska and countless winters "snow birding" in Haines City, FL. She will long be remembered by her family and friends for her independent spirit, strong convictions and deep devotion to her family. Her family wishes to thank Rev. David Joachim and Ruth Brayer of Westminster Presbyterian Church, as well as the staff of Senior Independence Hospice of Canfield for their kind thoughtfulness during her illness. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Evon's memory to Senior Independence Hospice of Canfield or Westminster Presbyterian Church in Boardman. Arrangements were entrusted by Lane Family Funeral Homes, Anstrom Chapel. Family and friends may view this obituary and send condolences at www.lanefuneralhomes.com.
