F. Bob Williams

F. Bob Williams, 88, died on Tuesday morning at the Caprice Rehabilitation Facility in Poland, Ohio. Born in Warren on October 1, 1918, to Frank C. Williams and Hazel (Standing) Williams, Bob was raised in Niles, moved to Youngstown his senior year, and was graduated from South High School in Youngstown in 1937. He was drafted into the army in 1942 and served in the Army Air Corps in Cerignola, Italy, in airplane radio maintenance. He returned home when the war was over in the summer of 1945. Upon his return, Bob resumed working for the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company. Known as “Chief,” he worked in the Order Department, retiring in 1979 from what was then the LTV Corporation. An avid softball player, he was actively involved and took pride in the company softball leagues as well as a church league. Bob was also active in the Mineral Ridge Church of Christ for 57 years, serving as a deacon for many of those years. He also sang in the church choir and was an active member of the Kum Double Class. He leaves his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Bruce (Hay) Williams of Poland; a brother Dane (Jayne) of Columbus; two daughters, Janet (Jim) Douds of Poland and B-J Logan of Sagamore Hills; one son, Alan (Keiko) Williams of Hudson; seven grandchildren, Kristin, Andrew, Katie, Melanie, Jared, Mari, and Emi; one great granddaughter, Briget; and a brother-in-law, Ben DiRienzo of Poland. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Lane Funeral Home in Mineral Ridge. On Saturday, a half hour viewing will be held from 3 to 3:30 p.m. at the Mineral Ridge Church of Christ followed by the funeral service at 3:30.
