Ferdinand J. Weaver, 85, of Howland Township, died 11:00 AM Sunday April 12, 2009 at his residence. He was born Nov.18, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY the son of William and Elizabeth (Kneff) Weaver and has been a Warren area resident since 1960 coming from Summerville, NJ. He served in the 1st Infantry Division of the US Army during WWII and was wounded in action in Germany Dec.17, 1944. He was awarded the American Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart, and the WW II Victory Medal. Ferd was employed for 35 years at Alcan Aluminum in Warren retiring in 1986. He was a long–time member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Warren where he served as an usher and was assistant scout master for Boy Scout Troop #11. He was a faithful volunteer at the VA clinics in Warren and Youngstown and was a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter #11 and the Military Order of the Purple Heart #606. He enjoyed traveling and doing yard work. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Loretta (Viehmann) Weaver whom he married Sept.21, 1947, a son Michael (Pam) Weaver of Howland, 2 daughters Elizabeth (Sheldon) Bycynski of Forest, OH, Catherine (John) Littleton of Indianapolis, IN, nine grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday April 16, 2009 in the chapel at Christ Episcopal Church where friends will be received for 1 hour prior to the service. The Rev. Donna Maree will officiate. Military honors will be immediately following at the church. Interment will be 9:30 AM Friday April 17 at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests material contributions be made to DAV Chapter 11 2044 Youngstown Rd. SE Warren, OH 44484 or the Military Order of the Purple Heart #606 C/O 6422A Shafer Rd. NW Warren, OH 44481.
