Maj. Ferdinand "Frank" S. Jagatich of John XXIII Home Hermitage, PA, died Monday June 23, 2008 (06-23-2008) at UPMC in Farrell, PA. He was 90 years old. Mr. Jagatich was born in Sharon, PA on March 24, 1918 a son of Ferdinand S. and Helen (Zdelar) Jagatich. Frank went on to marry the former Mary M. Kuzel on October 10, 1943, together they shared sixty-four years of marriage. Frank served our country in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and flew thirty-two combat missions as a command pilot aboard the B-29 the "City of Sharon" over Japan. His decorations and citations include: the Distinguished Flying Cross, World War II Victory Medal, and the US Air Force Commendation Medal. He retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserves in 1979. Mr. Jagatich retired from Westinghouse in Sharon after 45 years as an Electrical Engineer. He was a member of Sacred Catholic Heart Catholic Church, Sharon, Pa. In his spare time, he was an avid reader and especially enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. Frank is survived by his wife Mary of Hermitage, PA; a son Carl Jagatich of Chagrin Falls, OH; three daughters Dr. Cynthia Simpson of Springfield, IL, Celeste Mathieson and her husband Thomas of Grove City, PA, and Paula Riley and her husband David of Galloway, OH; a brother Joseph Jagatich of Austintown, OH; three sisters Rose Forney, Anna Jagatich, and Elizabeth Jagatich all of Hermitage, PA: ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Jagatich; and by two sisters, Frances Cesario & Helen Jagatich. Funeral Services be held at 11:00 AM Friday at the Madasz Funeral Chapel, Brookfield, OH with Rev. Cindy Swogger, Pastor. Calling hours will be held from 5PM to 7PM Thursday. Entombment will be in Crown Hill Mausoleum where full military honors will be observed. As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests contributions can be made to the Ferdinand S.
