A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10am Tuesday at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Mineral Ridge, with the Rev. Richard Murphy officiating for Frances G. Wilson, 81, who died Thursday evening at her daughter's residence. She was born June 25, 1928 in New York City, NY, the daughter of Alberto and Nesita (Berry) Alvarango, and she came to this area in 1953. She was a 1946 graduate of Julia Richmond High School in New York. She had worked as a Medical Assistant for Dr. Charles W. Mathias in Cortland for 30 years before retiring in the early 1980's. She was a member of St. Mary's Church. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, current events and politics, she was an excellent cook, and she loved listening to Frank Sinatra. She married Carl C. Wilson on July 6, 1963 and he preceded her in death July 20, 2009. She is survived by three sons; David C. (Marilyn) Wilson of New Castle, George T. Wilson of Niles, and David W. (Bella) Wilson of Poland; three daughters; Judith M. (Byron) Williams of Springfield Township, Sonja (David) Sylak of Mineral Ridge, and Greta (Charles) Cassudakis of Mentor; twenty grandchildren; and seventeen great grandchildren. Besides her husband, Frances was preceded in death by a son, Richard Horner; and two brothers; John and Harvey Alvarango. Friends may call from 5-8pm Monday at the Lane Funeral Home Mineral Ridge Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Celtic Hospice Care in Frances's memory. Frances's children would like to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to her nurses, Ruth, Cathy, and Tom, and to her caregiver Stephanie Caruso for the outstanding, compassionate care she received. They are truly grateful for all that you've done.
