Frank J Stein Jr

Frank J. Stein, Jr., 83 of Cortland, died at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at his home following an extended illness from Alzheimer's disease. He was born April 28, 1930 in Howland Township, the son of the late Frank, Sr. and Nelda Free Stein. Frank was a 1948 graduate of Howland High School and pursued a career in the insurance business. He was an Independent Insurance agent for 40 years culminating in the ownership of his own insurance agency. He was a member and past president of the Trumbull County Independent Insurance Agents. Frank was a lifetime member of the Howland Community Church where he served as a deacon for many years and was also a Trustee and Vice Chairman of the Official Board. During his life, Frank was an active member of the community. He was a member for 8 years and past president of the Howland School Board. He was a member of Niles McKinley masonic Lodge No. 794 F&AM, a 32nd degree mason in the York and Scottish Rites, a member of Al Koran Shrine and the Trumbull Shrine Club and former member and past president of the Downtown Warren Lions Club. He was also a member of the Niles Kiwanis Club, Niles Moose Lodge and the Niles and Cortland Historical Societies. Frank served as a board member of the Children's Rehabilitation Center, Trumbull County YMCA and the Niles Red Cross. He was also a member of Howland SCOPE. Frank loved traveling with is wife, Virginia and enjoyed golfing, especially with the O.S.L. League. Frank is survived by his loving wife, Virginia M. Spencer Stein, whom he married November 4, 1950; two daughters, Susan Johnson and Kathy Stein (Steve Parker); two grandsons, Jeremiah (Lorie) Johnson and Chad (Kathryn) Johnson; one great grandson, Westin Johnson; his brother, David (Juanita) Stein and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Stein. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013, at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren and also one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday at Howland Community Church. The Rev. Dr. Brian Byrne will officiate. Niles McKinley Lodge will conduct masonic services at 4:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Niles City Cemetery. Frank's family would like to extend special thanks to his long-time caregiver, Heather; the Senior Independence Hospice group; the Howland Community Church volunteers and all others involved over the years in his care.
