There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Croatian Catholic Church in Youngstown with Fr. Joseph Rudjak officiating, preceded by closing prayers to be recited at 9:00 a.m. at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, for George E. Maltonic, 78, of Austintown, who passed away at 2:27 a.m. Sunday, March 20, 2011 at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. George was born November 3, 1932 in Youngstown the son of the late George J. and Mary (Puncec) Maltonic and was a 1950 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. After spending two years in the United States Army, stationed in the United States and Germany, he worked at Republic Steel until he attended Youngstown State University, where he graduated and received a Bachelor Degree in Education in 1961. He was employed by the Sebring Board of Education where he taught sixth grade at Maple Ridge School from 1961-1962. After being employed by the Austintown Local School District in 1962, he taught at Frank Ohl Middle School, Woodside School, Frank W. Davis School and Lynn Kirk School; retiring after 32 years from Austintown Middle School in 1993. George also worked at Sturgeon’s Market while attending Youngstown State University, and worked summers at Sugardale Foods, Austintown Township, Johnny Romans Cycle Shop, Canfield Landscaping and Stambaugh Thompson. He was an active member of SS. Peter and Paul Croatian Catholic Church, where he was a lector and altar server at the Tuesday Croatian Mass, a member of the Altar & Rosary Society of the church; the Croatian Class, the Croatian Pensioners, CFU Lodge 66, visited the sick in nursing homes from the church and was a blood donator. George is survived by his wife, Nancy (Chingary) Maltonic, whom he married on December 26, 1961; three children Wendy (T. Louis Beard) Maltonic of Missoula, MT, Heather (Frederic) Garber of San Diego, CA; HM1 (SW) Scott Maltonic, US Navy, stationed at Naval Hospital Sigonella, Italy; future daughter-in-law HM2 Candice Roque stationed in Okinawa, Japan; a sister Ann Maltonic of Austintown; two granddaughters Anastasia and Maxine Beard and one great granddaughter Zoe McAdam. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Richard Maltonic and a sister Mary Rubaner. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011 from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave, Austintown, Ohio 44515, where the Altar & Rosary Society of the Church will hold a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Friday. Interment will full military honors will take place in Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown. The family suggests anyone wishing to make memorial contributions in George’s name that they please direct them to the SS.
