George L Grim

George L. Grim, 81, of Youngstown, formerly of Beech Bottom, WV, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. George was born on November 29, 1932 in Greene County, Pennsylvania, a son of the late George L. and Fern (Barnhart) Grim. George graduated from the former West Liberty State College with a Bachelor of Science and had worked as a consulting systems engineer at IBM. George served with a YN2 Rank during Peacetime in the United State Navy in the South Pacific aboard the USS Comstock (LSD-19). He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, serving as a Lector and Usher and also a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Beech Bottom, West Virginia. He was a member of Association for Systems Management, where he had served as President, the Kiwanis Club of Boardman serving as Past President in 2002 receiving Distinguished Club President Award and served as Division #21 Ohio District of Kiwanis LT. Governor 2006-2007. George was an Eagle Scout with a Silver Beaver Award and Bronze Pelican Religious Award serving on the Advancement Committee and Commission for Whispering Pines District BSA. He was a Junior Fair Board Advisor from 1999 to present, serving on the Canfield Fair Committee, Boardman Community Foundation Board Member since 2008, and Boardman Civic Association Citizen of the Year in 2010. He was the coordinator for the Boardman Memorial Day Parade and services from 2000 to 2010. George had also bowled with the Service League of Canfield for many years. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Dolly F. (Kranske) Grim in 1999 and his sister, Carole Nadine Burkett. George is survived by his two sons, John L. (Teresa) Grim of Smyrna, GA and James E. Grim of University Heights, OH; two grandsons, Alexander James and Julian Nathaniel Grim, and sister, Martha Augustine of Beech Bottom, WV. Friends may call on Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 1:00-4:00 PM at the Lane Family Funeral Home, 8387 Tod Ave, Boardman, OH (330) 782-0222. The Kiwanis Club will have a special prayer service at 4:00 PM. Additional Visitation will occur in Wellsburg, WV on Monday from 10:30 AM until time of formal processional to Mass at 12:30 PM at the Chambers Funeral Home, 1030 Main Street, Wellsburg, WV (304) 737-3551 Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Holy Family Catholic Church, Beech Bottom, WV with Father Dan Pianso, presiding. Interment will follow in Kadesh Chapel Cemetery, Beech Bottom with Military Honors by the United States Navy and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scouts Greater Western Reserve Council, 4930 Enterprise Blvd, Warren, OH 44481. Local arrangements by Lane Family Funeral Homes.
