BERLIN CENTER-George M. O’Connell, 47, of Berlin Center, passed away with his family by his side at 9AM on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 in the Cleveland Clinic after a two month battle with cancer. George was born on July 9, 1959 in Youngstown, Ohio and was the son of Thomas and Teresa (Schidel) O’Connell. George was a 1977 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School where he played baseball. George was currently working in the paint department at the General Motors Lordstown Plant for the last 27 years. George was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown and St. James Catholic Church in North Jackson. George was vice president of Western Reserve Baseball Organization. He was a volunteer coach of softball, baseball, and pee-wee football. George was a member of the UAW and participated in the UAW golf league and bowling league, in which he scored two perfect 300 games. George was an avid Notre Dame and Cleveland Indians fan. He enjoyed camping and boating with family and friends. George is survived by his wife of 16 years Lisa (Grope) O’Connell, whom he married on July 17, 1990; his mother Teresa O’Connell of Austintown, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Ray and Jennifer Grope; three children Cory O’Connell, Kristin O’Connell, and Tim O’ Connell all at home; three sisters and two brothers Tim (Janice) O’Connell of Findlay, Maureen (Albert) Goldfinch of Monaca, PA, Peggy (Steve) McLaughlin of Boardman, Mary (Allen) Burton of Leavittsburg, and Tom (Annette) O’Connell of Salem; ten nieces, four nephews, a number of great nieces and great nephews, and by a host of friends. George was preceded in death by his father. George will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends. He was a dedicated husband, father, friend, and volunteer to his community. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM Monday, August 14, 2006 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, preceded by closing prayers at 9:30 AM in the funeral home. Calling hours will be from 4 until 8 PM Sunday in the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel.
