George Preston Hitchens-94 Niles – Services will be held 1 pm Saturday at Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for George Preston Hitchens, 94, of Niles formerly of Austintown who passed away Thursday morning in Forum Health Northside Medical Center. George was born August 2, 1910 in Georgetown Delaware the youngest child of Daniel and Mary (Messic) Hitchens. He came to this area in 1989 from Lancaster PA, where he lived for most of his life. He was a pipe fitter for Automatic Sprinkler Corporation retiring in 1975. George was also a member of the Union Local #669, a Navy Veteran of WWII, and of the Lutheran faith. His first wife, the former Anna Mae Holier passed away in 1973. George leaves his second wife the former Bernice (Hartshorne) Rigby Hitchens of Niles, two step-children: Gary Rigby and Marlene Ditchey both of Austintown, and ten grandchildren. A step-son Merle Rigby, seven brothers and six sisters precede George in death. Family and friends may call from noon until 1 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
