George Richard Barto

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Friday at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Parish/ Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church in Warren, for George Richard Barto, 76, who passed away early Sunday, May 22, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. George was born June 6, 1939 in Clymer, PA., the son of Michael and Anna (Maruschak) Barto. He was a graduate of Clymer High School class of 1959 and has retired as a materials handler with General Motors Lordstown Plant in 1995 after 30 years of service. At the young age of 16, George became a volunteer firefighter with the Clymer Fire Department and continued to serve as a volunteer fireman in every area he lived. He served as Lieutenant, Captain, and Assistant Fire Chief at Lordstown until he retired after 25 years of service. George was a former member of Christ our King Church in Warren until they combined to join St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Parish. He was a member of the Youngstown Model Rail Road Club and the Riverside Model Rail Road Club at SCOPE in Warren. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. George leaves his wife the former Marjorie Petrick, whom he married December 16, 1961, six children, Debra Barto of Lordstown, Barb (Daniel) Caro of North Liberty, IA, John Barto of Niles, Steven (Eileen) Barto of Bedford, OH, Duane (Kelly) Barto of Weeki, Wachee, FL, and Laura Kay Barto of Kannapolis, NC. He also leaves 9 grandchildren, Stephanie (Tyler) Slack, Jennifer (Joshua) Cowgill, Nick Barto, Alex Barto, Alexis Barto, Zachary Barto, Bre Carpenter, Sammi Carpenter, and Veronica Carpenter, 7 great- grandchildren, Makayla Slack, Jameson Slack, Landon Barto, Sebastian Cowgill and "the littles" Caiden Cowgill, Mallory Cowgill, and Owen Cargill, 3 step grandchildren, Maegan Hamilton, Alexis Hamilton, and Justin Miller. George also leaves 2 sisters, Betty (David) Cox of Columbia Station, OH, and Mary Ann (Larry) Grove of Silver Springs, MD, and 1 brother, Rob (Karen) Barto of Pittsburgh. Besides his parents, George was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Michael and John Edward Barto. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Thursday at the Lane Family Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel. Family and friends will gather at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Parish / Sts. Cyril and Methodius worship site in Warren on Friday morning for an 11 AM mass.
