A Memorial Mass will be held at 12:00pm Saturday at St. Mary's Church in Mineral Ridge for George Slogik who passed away Thursday afternoon, April 17, in Trumbull Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. He was born May 12, 1937 in Daisytown, PA, a son of Mickey and Mary (Sawayda) Slogik, and he came to this area in 1955. He worked for Copperweld Steel for 43 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Mineral Ridge, the Slovak Club, the Northwood Golf Course Travel Golf League, and he spent 40 years as a volunteer, Board Director for the Greater Warren Credit Union. George also served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1960-1966. He loved golfing and gardening, but his favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren. George is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Doris Ann Sosnak, whom he married April 11, 1959; two children: George (Lorraine) Slogik of Strongsville, and Wendy (Jim) Breedlove, Jr. of Mineral Ridge; five grandchildren: Nicholas, Danielle, Jenna, Daniel, and Hannah. He also leaves two brothers: Joe Slogik of Leavittsburg, and Steve Slogik of Altoona, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may call from 10-11:30am at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel prior to procession to the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made in George's name to the Greater Warren Credit Union Scholarship Fund.
