There will be a memorial service 6:00 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Canfield United Methodist Church, 27 South Broad St., Canfield for Glenn Ellsworth McKnight, 89 of Canfield who died early Friday morning at his residence. Glenn was born October 3, 1922 in Dawson, Pennsylvania, a son of the late William Stewart and Mary Frances Junk McKnight. He was a D-Day Army veteran serving at Omaha Beach and the Battle of the Bulge and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Glenn was one of the founders of the Canfield Boy's Baseball Club and was an avid hunter and fisherman. His wife, the former Betty Jane Lardin, whom he married October 16, 1946, died August 16, 2002. He leaves his son, Dan McKnight of Canfield; a daughter-in-law, Pamela Kidston of Poland; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert McKnight of Connellsville, Pennsylvania ;two sisters Hazel Hixon of Dawson, Pennsylvania, Dora Ganoe_ of Scottdale, Pennsylvania and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Glenn was preceded in death by a son, Terry L. McKnight; and two brothers, Paul McKnight and Newt McKnight. Friends may call for one half hour at the church Thursday prior to the service. The family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to the memorial fund of Canfield United Methodist Church or to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St. Boardman 44512. Arrangements are being handled by Lane Family Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel.
