Gordon D. James

Lordstown- Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday at the Lane Funeral Home-Austintown Chapel for Gordon D. James age 83 of 2835 Hallock-Young Rd. who died late Friday evening at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Gordon was born Nov. 27, 1920 in Lordstown and was the son of David R. and Carrie (Schisler) James. He retired in July of 1979 as School Superintendent of Lordstown School Systems. He had been a teacher in Lordstown in 1942 and became High School Principal in 1954. He had been instrumental in establishing the Gordon James Career Center which was named after him. Gordon was a 1942 graduate of Youngstown State University majoring in Biochemistry, was elected a councilman in 1980 serving as Chairman of the Finance Committee, member of Lordstown Lions where he formerly been president, was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, served on the Election Board in Lordstown, member of State Teachers Assoc and the Ohio School Superintendents Assoc., served in WWII in the Army in the Medical Unit, was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. and loved fishing and gardening. His wife, the former Mary Elizabeth Evans whom he married March 31, 1946 died Sept. 29, 2001. He is survived by a daughter Candace (Michael) Richmond of Orland Park, IL., two sons Timothy (Belle) James of Kunming, China and Kevin (Diane) James of Greeneville, TN., twelve grandchildren, Natalie, Phillip, Misty, Jason, Aaron, Mike, Greta, Calvin Hannah, Emily, Courtney, Ashley and three great grandchildren Austin, Jackson and Bryant. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Monday. The family requests that material contributions be made to Hospice Unit at Trumbull Memorial Hospital-8th Floor, 1350 E.
