On Sunday, November 21, 2010, Gordon Lee Parker, age 77 moved on from his earthly home to his Heavenly one. He had battled cancer for several months with spirit, hope, and determination, making many new friends along the way. Gordon was a hard-working, but fun loving man. He graduated from Mineral Ridge High School. He then served his country in Korea as a private in the US Army. After discharge, he worked at Republic Steel, finally retiring after 30 years. He also owned and was employed at service stations, working as a mechanic. Gordon was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trap shooter, competing several years at the Grand American Trapshooting event in Vandalia, OH. After retirement, he moved to South Pasadena, FL, returning to Ohio in 2000. At that time he took up bowling, competing in up to seven leagues a week, again making many friends along the way. Gordon attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Niles. Gordon is survived by his sister Marjorie Witherstine of Niles; four children: Pandora Parker of Lexington, David (Shelly) Parker of West Mifflin, PA, Jeffery Parker of Clearwater, FL, and Sherri Parker of Ravenna; two step children: Gary (Rebecca) Schecodnic of Stuart, FL, and Nick (Sandy) Schecodnic of FL; seven grandchildren: Kelli, Adam, Joshua, Manda, Sarah, Hannah, and Caitlin; two great grandsons: Adam and Trent; special friend of the family Barbara Moore of Lexington: and his first wife, Virginia Parker of Warren Gordon is preceded in death by his parents: Charles D. and Esther (Saltsman) Parker; his second wife Sylvia (Schecodnic); and two brothers: Charles and Ralph Parker. Friends may call from 5 PM until 7 PM Friday at Lane Funeral Home Mineral Ridge Chapel, where a funeral service will be held 10 AM Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to the church in Gordon’s honor.
