Services will be 11 AM Thursday in Western Reserve United Methodist Church for Grant I. Rhoads, 86, of Boardman who passed away Monday in Forum Health Northside Medical Center. Grant was born May 17, 1920, in Youngstown the son of Herbert and Mabel (Jenkins) Rhoads and was a lifelong area resident. He was a 1938 graduate of South High School and served as a Captain with the United States Air Force during both WWII and the Korean War. Grant was an active member of the church, serving as chairman of its Building Committee as well as several other church committees. He was a member of the Sulgrave Lodge #696, and was Welsh Man of the year with the St. David Society for 1997. Grant retired in 1982 as a District Cashier with Republic Steel. He leaves his wife the former Clarabel Howe, whom he married November 30, 1942, three children; Ann Mull of Mesa AZ, Alice (Jack) Hamilton of Lordstown, and David (Beth) Rhoads of New Middletown, one brother Robert Rhoads of Liberty, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Grant is preceded in death by two brothers: Edwin and Howard Rhoads. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 PM today at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel and again from 10 AM to 11 AM Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers the family request material tributes take the form of donations to the church memorial fund in Grant’s name.
