Guy Michael Florio

Guy M. Florio, 85, of Warren passed away peacefully at 4:01 AM Friday June 27, 2014 surrounded by his family at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna following a brief illness. He was born March 24, 1929 in Warren the son of Matthew and Antoinette (Pecorelli) Florio. A lifetime Warren resident, Guy was a 1947 graduate of St. Mary's High School and served in the US Army during the Korean War where he received the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Camp Star and the United Nations Service Medal. He was employed for 34 years at Republic Steel Corp. retiring in 1984 as a general foreman and then for 10 years by the Ohio Turnpike Commission. Guy was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church Community. He enjoyed vacationing on the Jersey Shore for many years and joining his friends for coffee every morning at Arby's, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Frank and his wife Frances, and his mother and father-in-law Carl and Teresa Buresti. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Geraldine "Jerri" (Buresti) whom he married June 18, 1955, 3 daughters; Annette "Toni" (Gary) Giles of St. John, IN, Teresa (David) Bloshuk of Bethel, CT, And Mary Beth (Jerry) Penkala of Howland Twp. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren Ryan (Alyssa) Giles, Matthew (Lauren) Giles, Gina and Mary Bloshuk, Sara Penkala and fianc Ryan McGuire, Annalyn Penkala, great grandchildren; Dakota, Brianna, Aiden, Colton, Everdene, a sister Josephine Pardee of Warren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday July 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church. Friends will be received from 6-8 PM Monday at Lane Family Funeral Homes-Roberts Clark Chapel and for 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Military Honors will be observed following the mass. Per Guy's wishes, he will be cremated and his ashes will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery. The family suggests material contributions be made to Blessed Sacrament Church or to the Valley Mental Health Foundation.
