Harold Douglas Schlaegel

Rev. Harold Douglas Schlaegel, 81 of Niles went home to be in the presence of the Lord on Saturday morning, August 2, 2014, at Hospice House in Poland. He was born March 13, 1933 in Walton, New York the son of the late Waid E. and Esther May Bailey Schlaegel. Harold was a graduate of Walton, NY High School and received his bachelors degree from Nyack College in Nyack, NY. He and his wife, Dolores retired to Niles, Ohio in 1999. He was in the ministry of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church for 42 years, serving churches in Salamanca, NY; Ohio, NY; Troy and Dewittville, NY; the Westside C&MA Church in Warren, Ohio and Geneva, NY. Rev. Harold served 16 years as food service director at the C&MA Conference Center in Rome, NY. Harold is a member of the Walton C&MA Church in Walton, New York. He is survived by four children, Doug (Robin) Schlaegel of Warren, Kim Moore of Leavittsburg, Brian (Miriam) Schlaegel of Franklin, OH and Matthew (Ramona) Schlaegel of Lindenwold, NJ; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. His wife, Dolores Jean Glass Schlaegel, whom he married June 26, 1954 preceded him in death August 31, 2010. One sister, Lois Bouw and two brothers, Oliver and Donald Schlaegel also have all preceded him in death. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 4, 2014, in the fellowship hall at North Mar Church of the Christian & Missionary Alliance in Warren and 1 hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be at Niles City Cemetery.
