Harold E. Moore

February 26, 1935 — September 3, 2010

Harold E. Moore passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday September 3, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 26, 1935, in Youngstown to the late Francis C. and Alice (Smith) Moore and lived his entire life in the Lake Milton area. A Jackson Milton alumni, he then attended Youngstown State University. He spent many years as a business man and a community activist and volunteer. In his early years, he worked in the insurance business founded by his father and later merged with the real estate business and became Baker Moore Baker. In his later years he worked for the Green Team, a job he passionately believed in and loved until his retirement. It was during these years that he and his wife Jeanne opened and ran two successful antique stores, The House of Antiques and later Misty Harbour in Lake Milton. His accomplishments were many, serving as a Milton Township Trustee, working closely with the Fire Department. He served over 20 years on the Milton Township Zoning Board, served on the Mahoning County Library Board. He became a very successful grant writer and authored several grants that resulted in many improvements to his community. It was during his tenure on the library board that the beautiful new libraries in Poland and Austintown were built. Serving on the zoning board, he was instrumental in shaping the zoning policies that are in effect today. He also was an avid patron of Angels for Animals and the KAB. Together he and his late wife Jeanne spent many hours working at clean ups, and planting many trees and bulbs all through the township. One of the couple's favorite endeavors was the Victorian Garden Park on Mahoning Ave. Lake Milton. Harold belonged to the Mahoning Valley Church and enjoyed golfing. He leaves to treasure and carry on his memories his children: Dan (Marjorie) Moore of Lake Milton, Ed (Mary Jo) Moore of Mineral Ridge, Mark (Mary) Moore of Lake Milton and Mary Beth (Rob) Metzger of Diamond; three step daughters: Kathy Hunsicker of Lake Milton, Jo Ann (Jeff) Street of Chandler, AZ and Sue Patton of Lake Milton; fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years Jeanne, one brother Bob Moore, daughter in law Julan Moore, and one grandson Noah Street. Services will be 10 AM Wednesday at Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, where friends may call from 4 PM until 8 PM Tuesday. Material contributions may be made to the Fire Truck Fund at the Mahoning Valley Church of Youngstown. Harold will be always remembered, and so missed as a wonderful father and grandfather, a loving, caring husband, and man who gave much of himself. He was never too busy to lend a hand, whether it be to listen, work, or reach into his pocket. It was this spirit of giving and caring that so endeared him to everyone he came in contact with.
