Harriet L. Zerovich, 79 of Mecca Township, died at 11:29 a.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. She was born September 22, 1933 in Greene, the daughter of the late Aldrich Elijah and Isabel Probert Kagy. She has been a lifetime Trumbull county resident. Harriet was a 1951 graduate of Greene High School. She then worked as a telephone operator in Greene and then Cortland and also worked for Cortland Banks before starting a family. She worked for years with her husband, Joseph, on their dairy farm in Mecca. Harriet was a longtime active member of Mecca Community Church, where she had sang in the choir, was active in Bible studies and other church activities and was especially fond of working with the church clothing ministry, the Clothes Closet. She volunteered with the Salvation Army and worked as a poll worker with the Board of Elections. Harriet enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, sewing, crocheting, reading and loved baking pies and cookies. She had in the past supplied the Mecca Fire Department with her baked goods. Her husband, Joseph Zerovich, whom she married July 1, 1956, preceded in death April 1, 2000. A granddaughter, Christina Maddie and one brother, Raymond Kagy have both also preceded her in death. Surviving are two daughters, Kathryn (Walter) Maddie of Johnston and Amy (Glen) Buzzelli of Volant, Pa.; two sons, Karl Zerovich and Mark Zerovich both of Mecca; one sister, Helen Louise (Wade) Brainard of Cortland and two brothers, Harold (Leona) Kagy of Greene and Walter (Sue) Kagy of Erlanger, Kentucky. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel in Cortland, where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Pastor Charles Kindle and Pastor Tim May will officiate. Burial will be at East Mecca Township Cemetery.
