Harry Banks Donahue

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday at the Lane Funeral Home Mineral Ridge Chapel for Harry Banks Donahue, who passed away at his daughter’s home Saturday morning. Harry was born June 3, 1920 in Indiana, PA a son of the late Irvin and Olive (Rufner) Donahue. Harry served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as a firefighter earning the Theatre Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Soldier’s Medal of Heroism. After the war Harry was involved in local micro midget racing and was instrumental in starting the Mineral Ridge Volunteer Fire Department serving as assistant chief in 1954. He retired in 1982 after 43 years of service as fire chief for US Steel McDonald Works and Ohio Works. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4192 in Mineral Ridge, and former member of the American Legion, Eagles and NRA. Harry is survived by the mother of his children: JoAnn Donahue of Mineral Ridge; three daughters: Sharon (Butch) Rhodes of Mineral Ridge, Sue (Ken) Cameron of Mineral Ridge and Terri (Rick) Dando of Austintown; one sister Jane (Ricardo) Hernandez of Mineral Ridge; seven grandchildren: Tracy, Michael, Zac (Jamie), Angel, Ryan (Tiffany), Ashley, and Trevor; and five great grandchildren: Alexis, Jacob, Tyler, Zoe, and Isabella. Besides his parents, Harry is preceded in death by a brother George Donahue, and a sister Leora Baldwin. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512, in Harry’s name. Friends may call from 5 PM until 8 PM Tuesday at the Lane Funeral Home Mineral Ridge Chapel.
