Harry D. Johnston Canfield - Harry Dwight Johnston of Canfield, beloved father of Laurie J. Moore and father-in-law of David J. Moore, and proud grandfather of Matthew D. Moore and Brian J. Moore (Kelly Fening), passed peacefully into eternal rest on Saturday, June 9, 2018. God gave to us a great gift in a good man with a kind and gentle spirit to share our lives with and we will miss him dearly. Harry was born November 22, 1924 in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, to Farley O. and Winifred Gardiner Johnston. He graduated from Vandergrift High School where he played basketball. He was a World War II Army veteran serving in Company B 157th Engineers Combat Battalion, entering France at Normandy. After the war, he married Ruth J. Kiene of Ford City Pennsylvania, on June 10, 1950, and they moved to Warren, Ohio, where he worked for Mullins Manufacturing and Copperweld Steel. He retired from Copperweld in 1988 after 28 years of service. Harry was a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Canfield and attended the Gathering Place Senior Program there. He enjoyed square dancing, carpentry, and his grandsons sports and projects. His grandchildren were the joy of his life. Harry leaves his sisters Marybelle Barner of Renova, Pa., and Margaret Mosser of Fremont, Oh. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Harold and Robert, his sisters, Thelma Johnston, Betty Lou Johnston, Ethel Henderson, Annette Tumas, Dorothy Pletcher, and Nellie Kocha, his wife, Ruth, and granddaughters, Amanda Leigh and Emily Ann Moore. The family wishes to thank the Staff and Doctors of Windsor House Canfield for the care provided to Harry this past month. We appreciate your work and support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the memorial fund of Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 550 North Broad Street, Canfield, Ohio 44406.
