Funeral Services will be held Thursday 10:30 at Canfield Christian Church for Attorney Harry Frederick who died early Sunday morning at Clarebridge in Austintown. He was born May 5, 1926 in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of Laston and Harriet Barnes Frederick. He graduated in 1944 from Woodrow Wilson High School and, upon graduation enlisted in the U.S. Navy where, at 17 years of age, he was sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Center and then to the Pacific where he was assigned to a Torpedo Boat (PT 241) in Squadrons 23 and 16. He underwent search and destroy missions in the Solomons, Philippines and Borneo. He was awarded 3 battle stars for outstanding service. He also served in the Korean War. He was active and generously supportive of PT Boats, Inc., and their annual reunions. He also actively participated with the Canfield American Legion where he served as Vice-Commander for several years and he took great pride in marching with the Color Guard in both the Memorial Day and 4th of July Parades. He was instrumental in securing approval for the Canfield War Vets Museum and believed it was truly an asset to Canfield, Ohio. Following termination of World War II, he attended Ohio Northern University where he took his undergraduate studies and then attended Law School. In 1966, the partnership of Brennan, Frederick, Vouros & Black was established and he was a partner in that firm until his retirement in 2001. During his years of service to the practice of law, he felt his greatest service to be with his case known as Lottie Ann Leonhart v. Apple Creek Institute and the State of Ohio which was a case involving mistreatment of a mentally handicapped person in a state care facility. It was heard by Judge Thomas Lambros in the Eastern DivisionFederal Court and resulted in sweeping changes in regulations regarding mental health care facilities. Throughout his practice of law, he was very active with the Mahoning County Bar Association where he was the first person to chair the Inquiry Committee and did so for 27 years. He was honored in 2001 for 50 years of service to the Mahoning County and Ohio State Bar Associations. In addition to his service to the Bar Association, he was on the original Canfield Charter Commission and served through 1988. He also served as President of the Canfield Kiwanis Club and was actively involved as an organizer of the Canfield Swim Club where he enjoyed many years of competitive tennis. He was a member of Canfield Christian Church where he served as an Elder for over 40 years. Atty. Frederick was preceded in death by the love of his life, Ellen Veronese Frederick in 2002; his son H.
