Harry Norman Silver

December 2, 1925 — July 24, 2011

Harry Norman Silver, 85, of Warren died Sunday morning, July 24, 2011 in Trumbull Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Born December 2, 1925 in Warren, Harry was the son of the late Samuel and Pauline (Mitzner) Silver. He was a lifetime area resident and graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Harry served during WWII in the 264 infantry, 66th Panther Division, Company D. He was awarded the bronze star for his service to our country and was a survivor of the SS Leopoldville that was torpedoed Christmas Eve at the Battle of the Bulge. Harry retired from Copperweld Steel Corp. where he worked as a supervisor and also from Dodson's Furniture where he worked after his retirement for many years. He was a dedicated member of Beth Israel Temple and served on numerous committees there, specifically the House Committee of with he was Chairperson for many years. Harry enjoyed spending time with his grandson, as well as golfing, Bingo, fishing, gardening and was a member of the BPO Elks #295. He loved people and adored his two shih tzus, "Tyson" and "Spike". Harry was preceded in death in 2000 by his beloved wife, Martha (Hatfield) Silver, whom he married June 17, 1954. Together they shared 46 years of marriage and two children. He will be dearly missed by his daughter Paula (Jerry) Muir of Mineral Ridge, and son Bruce H. Silver of Warren, a grandson Kyle Seth Muir, two step grandsons, Chris and Justin Muir and two step great grandchildren, his mother-in-law, Mary Hatfield of Las Vegas, NV, sisters-in-law, Shirley Silver of Cleveland, Sharon Kale of Las Vegas, NV, and Kathy Tychonovich of Warren, brothers-in-law, "Butch" Hatfield of Las Vegas, NV, Lester Hatfield of FL and Edward Hatfield of NC, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Yetta Glaros, Annie Coughlin, Max Silver and Isadore Silver. Rabbi Frank Mueller will conduct a funeral service Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 1PM at the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel. Harry will be buried in Beth Israel Cemetery in Warren. In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made in Harry's memory to Boys Town, St. Joseph Cancer Center, Temple El Emeth, or Beth Israel Synagogue.
