Helen Karmelita

Hermitage, PA- Helen Karmelita formerly of Masury, OH passed away peacefully Wednesday evening June 25, 2014 at the Nugents Convalescent Home. She was 87 years old. She was born in Klimcovic, Poland the daughter of William and Pauline (Wawryniuk) Mazur on February 20, 1927. She and her family immigrated to Canada when she was an infant and settled eventually in Toronto. Helen married Pete Karmelita on September 11, 1948 and moved to Masury following their marriage where they would raise two sons Jon and Wally. Mrs. Karmelita was a former telephone operator while in Canada and locally she had worked for the former Valley View Department Store and for Daffin's Candies. She had also had spent several years in Florida where she had worked as a caregiver. She loved meeting and getting to know new people whenever possible. Helen also was an avid collector of stuffed animals, enjoyed playing Eucker and Bingo as well as cooking, and reading. Helen will be deeply missed by her sons Jonathan Karmelita and his wife Donna of Solon, OH and Walter Karmelita and his wife Sandi of Sharon, PA; six grandchildren and six great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Pete on May 17, 1996, and by her brother Walter R. Mazur. Private funeral services will be held and are under the direction of the Madasz Chapel of Lane Family Funeral Homes in Brookfield, OH. Rev. Cindy Swogger of First Baptist Church in Sharon will officiate. Burial will take place next to her husband at the Brookfield Township Cemetery. In lieu of donations or flowers friends are just asked to remember Helen for the way she was.
