CANFIELD- Helen Wolfcale of Canfield died Tuesday August 5, 2008 at her home in Canfield. She had recently celebrated her 85th birthday. Daughter of the late Leroy and Clara Davies, Helen was born in Youngstown on June 8, 1923. She graduated South High School in 1941 and Ohio University in 1945 with a BA in Education. After college she moved to Royal Oak Michigan, where she taught high school, coached swimming and earned a Masters Degree in Special Education at Wayne State University. In 1953, she enrolled in a teacher exchange program that took her to Japan, where she taught chemistry, biology, and physical education in a U.S. military high school. In 1960 she married Arthur D. Wolfcale and returned to the Youngstown area. Helen was a member of the Ohltown United Methodist Church. She was an avid golfer and a distance swimmer for most of her life. She developed an environmental science education program when she taught at the Campfire Camp Kiwitani Education Center for many years. Teaching was her great love. She enjoyed travel with her husband, hiking, gourmet cooking, and cultivating an ever-changing perennial bed in the garden. She is survived by her husband, Arthur D. Wolfcale of Canfield, her son, Nils Wolfcale and his wife, Aza, of Marquette, Michigan, her daughter, Amy and her husband, August Oliveri, of New York, and her granddaughter, Gianna-Hln Oliveri. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service to celebrate Helen's life will take place at 11 a.m.on Saturday August 9, 2008 at Ohltown United Methodist Church in Mineral Ridge
